All players should upgrade to the newest version of Letterpress in the App Store. Support is not provided for legacy app versions, including Game Center matches, beyond the RENEWAL procedures below.
Having connectivity problems or getting error message? (RENEWAL procedures)
These Game Center related issues can be resolved with these RENEWAL procedures. Try these solution sets below in order until Letterpress is working again for you.
LEVEL 1 - NICE AND EASY: Open Letterpress, tap More and then tap the Reset Game Center button. This corrects most problems.
LEVEL 2 - MULTI-STEP: Follow these steps to resolve more complex issues:
LEVEL 3 - REINSTALL: If the above still doesn't resolve your issue and you're sure that you have an active data connection (cellular or wifi), delete Letterpress from your iOS device then download it again from the App Store.
LEVEL 4 - BROKEN GAMES: From time-to-time, Game Center will setup a broken game. No one seems to know why this happens but when it does Letterpress can exhibit a variety of problems. The best way to identify and resolve this situation is to open the Game Center app, tap on Turns and then on Letterpress. Delete any of the Active Games within the Game Center that do not also show within the home screen of Letterpress by swiping left in Game Center and tapping on Remove.
LEVEL 5 - WHAT ELSE: Be sure Notifications are turn on. This is essential to receive game status updates.
Do I have to pay for upgrades on multiple devices?
Nope! All of your devices can upgrade with a single in-app-purchase. After you upgrade one device, head into the Upgrade screen on another and tap the “Already Purchased” button at the bottom of the screen. Even if you bought it a second time, you'll only be charged once (the App Store will not double-charge you as long as you use the same Apple ID).
How do I set a profile photo?
This is managed via the Game Center. Simply open the Game Center app, make sure you are on the “Me” tab and then tap your picture at the top of the screen to change the profile photo. Your photo will then show up in Letterpress though it may take a little while to update.
How do I change my player name?
This is managed via Settings. You need to open the Settings app on your device and scroll down to tap “Game Center”. Tap on your current player name beneath “GAME CENTER PROFILE” to make a change. This will show up in Letterpress though it may take a little while to update.
How do I manage notifications for Letterpress?
Notifications are handled by Game Center which are managed under the Notifications section within the Settings app..
I get an error when I try to invite a friend to play?
Your friend probably has “Game Center Invites” turned off. Just have your friend open the Settings app on your device, scroll down to tap “Game Center” and confirm that the “Allow Invites” switch is set to ON.
I get error messages.
Sometimes when submitting a turn you'll get an error -1001 or 23. Usually if you wait a bit you'll be able to submit the turn later. Every now and then you might need to force-quit the app and relaunch it by double-tapping on the home button and sliding up on Letterpress to close the app.
It says multiplayer unavailable (Error #10)?
Looks like you might have Restrictions enabled for your device. Open the Settings app, tap “General” and then tap “Restrictions” and scroll to the bottom. Make sure the “Multiplayer Games” switch is turned ON.

- Hard close all apps on your device (double-tap on the home button and slide up on each app to close it). This can clear memory conflicts.
- Reset your device by simultaneously pressing and holding down the Home and Power buttons until the Apple logo appears.
- Tap the Settings icon then scroll down and tap the Game Center item (it will probably be at the bottom of a grouping that begins with Music). Tap on the "Apple ID: ..." near the top and then tap "Sign Out". This will sign you out of the Game Center.
- Cycle your device all the way off then turn it back on.
- Go back into Settings, then Game Center and tap Sign In to reestablish connectivity.
- Start Letterpress as you would normally.
